The members of Sherubtse College’s Bhutan Youth Foundation organised a fashion show themed “Rags to Fab” on September 8 to encourage future designers.
Discarded cloths were reused to design fashionable dresses by students and the members of the foundation.
The event showcased a variety of designs and cultural sense of designers on the ramp. Some of the designs looked professional. Teams worked hard to perfect their walk on the ramp.
“The highlights of the show for me were the fabulous coloured dresses, exquisite skirts with traditional touch, print and embellished pieces, and the beautifully constructed tailored separates,” said Tashi Tshering, one of the organisers.
For Chening Zangmo, a third year BA Dzongkha and English student, taking part in the show was a thrilling and exciting experience. “I know this experience will motivate me a lot to have my own collections for future fashion shows,” she said.
Dechem Pema, a third year student won the competition and took away Nu 3,000 along with two gift coupons sponsored by Ambient Café and Fusion Lounge in Thimphu.
First runners-up, Tandin Pema, a second year student designer, won Nu 1,500 and two gift coupons. Pema Choki, the second runners-up walked away with two gift coupons.
Certificates were awarded to all the designers.
The event was sponsored by Aum Sonam Pelden, Gayleg Construction and Hiring, Bajo and Khandu Wangmo.
The foundation will organise such shows every year to showcase the talent and creativity of the Sherubtse students.
