Nangsi Lyonpo Damchoe Dorji visited Pemagatshel from October 6 to 8 to assess the progress of Denchi Dzong and Yongla Gonpa construction.

At his first visit to the dzongkhag after assuming cabinet portfolio, Lyonpo was accompanied by Pema Wangchuk, People’s Democratic Party’s candidate for the upcoming NA by-election in Nanong-Shumar constituency.

Lyonpo met with project management and local government representatives to discuss change in the dzong’s utse design and placement. The utse will be relocated to a more prominent structure of the dzong.

The project management said that since the construction is in the early phase, ‘slight’ changes are possible.

Lyonpo promised the people of Pemagatshel that the government will ensure that the construction of the two significant cultural monuments in the dzongkhag receive top priority and that they should be completed on time.

“Lyonpo also assured us that the new government will fulfill all the promises made during the campaign,” said one local government leader.

Nangse Lyonpo also visited the three gewogs of Nanong, Shumar and Zobel of Nanong-Shumar constituency that will go to the poll in November and met with the people in ‘meet the people programme’ at the three different gewog centres.

“We were told about the measures the new government is initiating to provide employment to unemployed school and university graduates as a part of the new government’s campaign pledge,” said Jigme, a young high school graduate.

Lyonpo left for Trashigang on October 8.
