Coca-cola creates history with the arrival of the FIFA world cup trophy for the first time in Bhutan

This is the first time that the authentic Trophy has arrived in Bhutan, which is one of the 90 countries in the world to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola Bhutan today created history by unveiling the real gold, spectacular FIFA World Cup Trophy here in Thimphu. This is the first time that the authentic Trophy has arrived in the country. The most coveted prize in the world of football was in Thimphu for a day and gave thousands of football fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the authentic Trophy and be photographed with it.

His Royal Highness, Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck unveiled the magnificent trophy today at the Changlimethang Stadium in the presence of Neeraj Garg, Vice President South West Asia Operations, Coca-Cola India and South West Asia Region, Ugen Tsechup Dorji, President, Bhutan Football Federation, Sanjeev Kumar, Vice President Finance, Coca-Cola India and South West Asia Region, Shadab Khan, Country Manager, Coca-Cola Nepal and Bhutan, and Tshenchok Thinlay, Managing Director, Tashi Beverages, were also present at the occasion.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Neeraj Garg, Vice President South West Asia Operations, Coca-Cola India and South West Asia Region said, “The world’s most loved beverage also brings about moments that come but once in a lifetime. We are elated that in partnership with FIFA, Coca-Cola has been able to put Thimphu on the route map of this prestigious Trophy tour, which will cover 90 countries around the world. This Trophy is amongst the world’s ultimate symbols of happiness, optimism, inclusiveness, diversity, collaboration and commitment. Coca-Cola stands for these values and we wanted to leverage this Trophy tour, as a force for good. It is my belief that this Trophy tour will fuel a movement of healthy, active living, not just in Thimphu but across the country.”

Ugen Tsechup Dorji, said, “We as a society need to build a culture of sports that is mainstream and accessible to people across the spectrum. This encouragement needs to come in from all quarters and I would like to congratulate Coca-Cola Bhutan for bringing this magnificent trophy for the first time ever to Bhutan. It is a momentous occasion for Bhutan to be able to host the FIFA World Cup™ and a fantastic feeling that Coca-Cola has been able to bring this Trophy for the people of Bhutan to see.”

The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will be the most inclusive, participatory event ever, inviting fans around the world to get up close and personal with the same trophy that is presented by FIFA to the country winning the FIFA World Cup™. Bhutan is one of the 51 new countries that have never had the opportunity to host the trophy, who have never had the opportunity before.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour is the result of Coca-Cola & FIFA’s long association which led to the birth of this unique campaign in 2006. Touted as the world’s biggest experiential marketing campaign, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour aims at giving football lovers across the globe a chance to see the Trophy.

The global FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola kicked off with an official launch ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 12 September 2013.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola is the most inclusive, participatory event ever, inviting fans around the world to get up close and personal with the same trophy that is presented by FIFA to the country winning the FIFA World Cup.

In 2010, when Coca-Cola and FIFA took the trophy to 94 cities in 84 countries, it provided more than 500,000 fans across five continents, an opportunity to be a part of the trophy tour celebrations. This year, the tour will also be visiting 51 new countries that have never had the opportunity to host the trophy before.

The Coca-Cola Company in partnership with FIFA and Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) have come together to bring the largest and longest global tour of the FIFA World Cup Trophy giving millions of fans a chance to get up close and personal with the authentic, solid-gold trophy presented to the FIFA World Cup-winning country every four years. The Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour will travel to 90 countries around the globe over a nine month period.

Tashi Beverages in Bhutan are the sole bottling unit for Coca-Cola in the country. In 2012 Coca-Cola began the Coca-Cola Bhutan National League in partnership with the Bhutan Football Federation to encourage sports and active healthy lifestyles amongst the youngsters in Bhutan.
