Thousands of people gathered to receive blessings (Tshe-wang) from His Holiness the Je Khenpo on the final day of the eight-day Moenlam Chhenmo in Pemagatshel.
It was one of the largest gatherings the dzongkhag has seen in many years.
The attendance at the prayer ceremony was more than what the organizers expected given that many people were attending religious programmes in other places.
“It was a blessing for us who could not travel outside to receive blessing and teachings. I walked for an hour each morning from my host’s place for the prayers. Now I feel spiritually very content,” said 70-year-old Meme Dorji from Khar gewog.
According to Shumar Gup Lepo who is also the secretary of the organizing committee, Moenlam Chhenmo this year was a great success. “Despite small population over two thousand devotees attended the moenlam every day,” he said.
His Holiness celebrated the Nyenpa Guzom (Meeting of Nine Evils) with the people of the dzongkhag.
“It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to sit His Holiness and to celebrate the day,” said Rinchhen, a local resident.
His Holiness left Pemagatshel today and will consecrate Dungsam Academy, the first private high school in Deothang, Samdrup Jongkhar on tomorrow.
The moenlam began on December 30, 2013.
