A handover ceremony for the “Project for Introduction of Recycled Compactor Truck and Vacuum Truck in Bumthang Dzongkhag”, in the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), will be held on 8th May 2015, in Chamkhar City of Bumthang District, Central Bhutan.
The ceremony will be attended by Dasho Phub Tshering, Governor, Bumthang District, and relevant officials from Bumthang District, as well as Mr. Tsunemasa Teramoto, Counsellor, Embassy of Japan in New Delhi.
Through this project totaling US$ 44,056, a compactor truck and a vacuum truck, donated by Kakamigahara city, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, were reconditioned and transported from Japan to Bhutan.
Chamkhar City, the capital of Bumthang District, with a population of 8,000, is facing growing challenges of waste management and sewage treatment, with the rapid urbanization in recent years and the increase of population in the city.
Provision of a compactor truck and a vacuum truck through this project will enable efficient garbage collection and regular transportation of wastewater from sewage tanks to the treatment plant. It is expected that the provision of these trucks will improve the city’s sanitation, and accordingly benefit 8,000 citizens of Chamkhar City.
The Government of Japan hopes that this project will improve the quality of living and strengthen the human security of the people in Bhutan, as well as further develop the relations of friendship and cooperation between Japan and Bhutan.
