Thimphu, Bhutan, 18 May 2015: Bhutan Media Foundation was declared as Registered CSO on 18 May, 2015.

As a registered CSO, BMF gains the opportunity to fundraise and seek support from diverse sources both within and outside the country. It further strengthens BMF's responsibility to function as a civil society organisation and caters in the public's interest to strengthen the media and help sustain Democracy in Bhutan.

However, BMF shall continue to be guided by the vision and aspiration of its founder, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. BMF is fortunate to have the blessing and guidance of His Majesty the King and also the acceptance of the civil society organisation.

The registration should not be based only on the number of years served but also on other criteria including the purpose of its existence and value of benefit to the society and the country as a whole.

The Bhutan Media Foundation was established through a Royal Charter issued by His Majesty the King on 21st February, 2010, to foster the growth of a strong, responsible media capable of playing an important role in the social, economic and political growth of the nation. It is mandated to support the wholesome development of mass media so that it can carry out its roles and responsibilities in the interest of the democracy
