Lyonchhen and delegation arrived in Brussels this morning at the start of his visit to the European Union at the invitation of Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission.
This morning, Lyonchhen had a meeting with the Ambassador and officials of the Royal Bhutan Embassy, Brussels during which he briefed them about the developments in Bhutan and the role of embassy in promoting Bhutan’s interest in Europe.
Thereafter, Lyonchhen had lunch with the Bhutanese community living in Europe.
In the afternoon, Lyonchhen had separate meetings with the Honorary Consuls of Bhutan in Europe and representatives of the Friendship Associations, and with business interest groups in Europe. Lyonchhen thanked the Honorary Consuls for goodwill and support for Bhutan and requested them for their continued support in this regard.
Lyonchhen briefed the business representatives about business opportunities in Bhutan and requested them to explore investment opportunities in Bhutan.
In the evening, Ambassador of Bhutan to Belgium and the European Union hosted a Reception in honor of Lyonchhen and delegation. The Reception was attended by officials from the European Union, Honorary Consuls, friendship association members, Bhutanese community in Europe and friends and well-wishers of Bhutan.
Tomorrow, Lyonchhen will be meeting with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for development Cooperation of Belgium; Chairperson of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia and the members of the European Parliament; President of the European Council; and the Director of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
